This Victorian clay-lined lake was leaking, had poor access, the island was eroding and the summerhouse beyond saving.

This was a substantial project in an area of the estate with poor access for machines.

The brief was to rebuild the dam and island. Install a 15 metre jetty, a bridge to the island, boardwalks around the inaccessible wet areas of the lake, rebuild the stream into the lake and replant with ornamental plants. Three large feeder ponds were also restored.

Pond maintenance is regularly carried out to prevent the water plants from getting out of control.

The lake’s water level was lowered and the top of the leaking dam was removed. Layers of engineering clay were spread and compacted to rebuild the dam.
