Natural pond construction, Wiltshire.

This large pond, near Stourhead, was designed to replace a previous smaller pond that had been empty for many years despite several attempts to repair it with puddled clay.

The existing excavation was made deeper and wider and marginal shelves were cut into the perimeter.

We then installed a protected butyl membrane to guarantee water retention which was then partially buried to create submerged pond margins for aquatic planting. The pond measures 40 metres x 30 metres x 2 metres maximum depth.
