Formal ponds

Biologically a formal pond behaves in exactly the same way as a natural pond and can sustain an equally diverse ecosystem. The main difference is the rigid construction required to hold the water. This must be carried out most thoroughly in order to prevent the problems that are commonly associated with formal water features eg  leakage due to inadequate methods of waterproofing , poor filtration, cracking in the blockwork and concrete render etc. All of our formal ponds, ie ponds with a concrete interior, have a black GRP (fibreglass) coating applied on site which is resistant to movement, freezing and UV light unlike most of the paint-on products.
